"For catechesis to be effective, the catechist must be fully committed to Jesus Christ. Faith must be shared with conviction, joy, love, enthusiasm, and hope."
National Catechetical Directory (NCD), 207

"The purpose of catechesis is to make a person's faith become living, conscious and active through the light of instruction."
Decree on the Pastoral Office of Bishops in the Church, 14. NCD, 32

Being a catechist is an experience of being entrusted with the responsibility and honor of presenting the message of our Lord, Jesus Christ and His church to God’s precious children.

The Church of the Incarnation is truly blessed to have an abundant community of well trained and experienced catechists. Catechists are committed to let the Lord’s light shine in the ways they awaken, strengthen and encourage faith in others. Faith formation in our parish is a partnership formed with the guidance of the Holy Spirit: a partnership of faith among our Pastor, Pastoral Associate, catechist, parent and child and the entire parish family.

All catechists (18 and over) are required to undergo a background check. All catechists are required to attend a workshop on Protecting God’s Children. This process is required by the Archdiocese of Hartford. We are called to be in compliance with the Archdiocese for the safety of all children.

Teens entering the ministry are mentored by a master catechist for two years before being partnered with another teen to form a community of children.

We welcome all people to consider this dynamic ministry.
